Mattie Moseley 86, passed away on December 28, 2022, at home with family members by her side, in Pecos, TX.

Mattie was the first daughter born to Irvin (Funny) Ephriam and Lillie Mae (Samuel) Ephriam on September 10, 1936, in Wharton, TX. Mattie lived a life that was filled with prayer, love, faith, and service to humanity. Mattie accepted Christ at an early age and accepted the calling to Evangelism in 1979. Mattie was ordained as an Evangelist in 1982 by Rev. Alvin Moore in Pecos, TX. Mattie moved away to Osceola, AR, in 1984 where she served on the mission board and was an active servant for the body of Christ at St. John MB Church. Mattie returned to Pecos in 1995 to be with her ailing mother and returned to her family church at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a member until her passing. She was the Mother of the Church, certified as a missionary and became the Missionary Society President. Mattie was an active member of The Silver Leaf Pecos Senior Center, The National Museum of African American History and Culture, the NAACP, and active in the community, providing service to those in need and preaching the Gospel at every opportunity.

Mattie worked for the PBTISD for 7 years as a custodial worker and retired to pursue her calling to the ministry.

Mattie leaves to mourn her passing, one sister, Ernestine Deming of Duncanville, TX and one brother, Don Wesley Barton of Pecos, TX. She is welcomed by her parents Irvin and Lillie Mae Ephriam, three sisters Maxine E Dade and Lillie Joyce Walker of Pecos, TX, Doris L Ephriam of Midland, TX, one brother, Irvin “Duke” Ephriam of Pecos, TX, one son, Monroe Donald Gordon Jr. of Odessa, TX, and a great granddaughter, Cor’daysia Ephriam of Memphis, TN.

Mattie leaves to cherish her memories and legacy: five sons, Lionel Ray Ephriam (Darlene) of Austin, TX, Willie Campbell of Albuquerque, NM, Joe Bob Ephriam of Midland, TX, Clifford Earl Gordon (Yolanda) of Odessa, TX, and Jeffrey Eugene Ephriam of El Paso, TX. Six daughters, Virdie Dee Fields of Odessa, TX, Karen Lynn Williams (Kenneth) of Cathedral City, CA, Barbara Ann Herod of El Paso, TX, Regretta Joyce Woodland (Darren) of La Plata, MD, Nancy Marie Brown of Odessa, TX, and Angie Lachelle Ephriam of Pecos, TX. Mattie had 39 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
