She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years Federico Contreras, parents Francisca and Felipe Mata, sisters Flora Ybarra and Catalina Ybarra, brothers Enrique Mata and Ismael Mata.

She is survived by her five children: Javier Contreras (and family), Angie (Ricky) Barreno, Isabel (Daniel) Florez of Midland, TX, Sam (Anna) Contreras and Freddy (Monette) Contreras all from Pecos, TX; sisters Anita (Camilo) Evaro of Pecos, TX and Vickie Ybarra of Midland, TX; brothers Felix (Aida) Mata of Pecos, TX and Mingo (Elvira) Mata of Pecos, TX; 22 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Julia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was a lifelong homemaker and retired employee of P.B.T.I.S.D. She was an extraordinarily strong woman who endured many struggles in her lifetime, yet she fought until the very end. She had a tenacious spirit. Her smile was precious, and she truly was a one-of-a-kind woman. She was a simple, firm woman with a loving heart. She loved family gatherings and if she was around, there would be lots of laughter and memories to be made. She enjoyed watching her sons and grandsons play baseball and attended games when she could. She was always on the go and lending a helping hand however she was able to. She would cook you up a delicious meal “en un dos por tres” meaning you would be eating a homemade meal within minutes. She made the best tamales, menudo and relleno. Every meal she cooked; her love was poured into it. If you knew her, you knew she disliked taking pictures so any opportunity one had for a picture with her, you captured the moment. Julia lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. We are left with so many wonderful memories to cherish of our precious Julia. She was the matriarch, and her love was radiant to the core of our family. Although we were not ready to let her go, she gained her angel wings. We have comfort in knowing that she is no longer in pain or suffering. She will be missed so much by many, especially her family.  May her eternal resting place be glorious in the presence of the Lord.

Pallbearers will be: Javier Contreras Jr., Ricky Barreno, Adrian Barreno, Samuel Contreras, Jeremy Florez, Jaime Contreras, Elijah Contreras and Joshua Contreras. Honorary bearers: Isaiah Ornelas, Gabriella Contreras, Kariza Contreras, Jayden Barreno, Jonathan Contreras, Luke Contreras, and Freddy A. Contreras, III.

Condolences may be offered at 2024 Washington St, Pecos, TX. The family wishes to sincerely thank everyone for their support and love during this difficult time. --Contreras, Barreno and Florez Families
