Richard Hayes

Richard Hayes, 90, beloved Brother, Uncle, and Son, was called to his eternal resting place on May 20, 2023.

He entered this world on December 25, 1932 in Barstow, TX, born to Prentice and Bessie Hayes. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, six sisters and almost all of his sisters and brothers in law. He is survived by his brother in law, Jesse Reece of Abilene, Texas and a multitude of much loved nieces and nephews including many greats and great-greats.

Dick was blessed with good friends and continued active friendships lasting from childhood until his death. Many thanks to his dear friend Olga Mendoza, who cared for him for many years and helped him maintain his independence for so long.

Dick was not a fan of large gatherings and most enjoyed time spent with small groups of friends or family. He loved to read and was an artist at heart spending many pleasurable hours painting, woodworking or playing the harmonica. As a teenager he even embroidered designs on clothing for his sisters. He also enjoyed cooking and sharing meals with loved ones. He loved pineapple upside down cake and several family members made sure he always had one for his birthday.

From an early age Dick loved animals and they loved him. You never had to look far to find dogs and cats at his home. At one time there was even a neighborhood crow that would knock at his door for his daily treats.

Dick loved his family and his home and we rejoice for the reunion with his family in his new heavenly home. He will be missed by many here on earth.

Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service starting at 9:00 am on Saturday May 27, 2023 at Pecos Funeral Home
A Funeral service will be held at Pecos Funeral Home at 2:00 pm on Saturday May 27, 2023 with burial to follow at the Barstow Cemetery.
