PECOS, TEXAS

Roger William Jones Jr., 77, beloved father and friend to all, passed away at his home on April 24, 2020 in Pecos, Texas.

Due to the ongoing standards set by the governor's office for COVID-19, Visitation for his immediate family will be Thursday at the funeral home from 11:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. Only 10 members of the family are allowed during this time.

There will be an opportunity for everyone to visit Pecos Funeral Home to pay respects on Friday, May 1st at 9:15am at Pecos Funeral Home back door, north side of building, under the awning. There will be a sign-in book outside for all who would like to sign. The graveside service will be immediately afterwards at Greenwood Cemetery in Pecos, TX for all to attend at 10am.

Roger was born on January 14, 1943, in Champaign, IL, to the late Roger and Dorothy Jones. He attended Mercedes High School, in Mercedes, Texas and then enlisted in the Air Force, from 1966 to 1970, where he married his wife, Linda Winstead, and then fought in the Vietnam War. He was married for 25 years, before divorcing, and had two children.

Roger was lighthearted and a jokester. He had a passion for farming cantaloupes, cotton, and onions among other things, and did so in the Pecos Valley and other places for over 50 years. He often did what he could to help the town of Pecos, and was awarded bythe VFW for his contributions of donating free produce to all the hospitals, nursing homes and needy veterans in the surrounding area of 350 miles of West Texas. He was also a member of Pecos First United Methodist Church.

Roger was a schoolteacher at Pecos High School for over 30 years, teaching automotive technology. He always encouraged the students that went through his program to follow their dreams. He loved teaching auto tech and took his students to state competitions many years in a row.

Roger also enjoyed reading his western books, especially anything regarding old west gunfighters such as Wyatt Earp. He loved to travel, and visited 48 of the fifty states, with Alaska being his most adventurous. He was a lover of old steam engine trains and often took his family on vacation to visit historical places where old steam engine trains were kept on display, as well as where famous battles were fought in our nation's soil.

He is survived by his children, William "Wes" Jones (Deanna) of Midland, TX and his daughter Jodi Lynn

Jones (JamesSilvas) of Fort Worth, Texas. He has four granddaughters, Katalina and Jennifer Jones and Megan and Lindsay Strobach. Two step grandchildren, Justin McCright (Lorissa) and Kristin Garza (Noah) and he has three great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by a brother, David Jones (Becky) and sisters, Sharon Hamilton and Kay Dombi and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
