Edgar Cravey

1927 — January 1, 2021

Peocs, Texas

Edgar Therman Cravey, 94, of Pecos Texas, passed away on February 25, 2021 in Pecos, Texas.

Ed Cravey was born in Mason County, Texas to John Edgar and Maudie May Cravey on February 14, 1927. As a young man he was a cowboy and later became an expert mechanic. At age 18, he joined the Army where he served as a Sergeant in World War II in occupied Italy. Honorably discharged in June of 1946 he received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. When asked about why he served he said, “Look at it this way. Everyone can say they wish the world was at peace, but the people who went over there were just trying to defend their country. There are a lot of things in the world that people don’t like to do, but you’ve got to. That’s just a part of life.”

On December 26, 1948 he married Clara Corine Lowrance in Sheffield, Texas. In 1961, the family moved to Pecos, Texas. He founded Canal Well Service in 1968 and retired in 2007. He supported the Pecos community and for many years, he held a yearly BBQ for Law Enforcement members. Golfing was a passion and he played almost every day into his 90’s. Hunting and fishing was always a big part of his life and he took family members and friends on memorable camping trips. He and his wife Corine loved to travel and went all over the United States in their RV. A highlight of their travels was a trip to Hawaii.

Ed Cravey was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Clara Corine Cravey, his sister Alpha May Smith, and his twin brother William Herman Cravey.

Ed Cravey is survived by his son Ronald Therman Cravey and wife Nancy of Leander, Texas, his son John Robert Cravey and wife Kathy of Pecos, Texas, his daughter Debra Corine Sanders and husband Calvin of Winnie, Texas; his grandchildren Chris Cravey, Susan Wimberly, Jeremy Sanders, Robert Cravey, Brandon Sanders, Melissa Moose and Caitlin Cravey; great-grandchildren John David Cravey, Lilah Cravey, Myla Wimberly, Braxton Sanders, Ella Wimberly, Gus Cravey and Brayden Sanders; great-great granddaughter Brooklyn Cravey and great-great grandson Wes Cravey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
