William "Bill" Joseph Marshall

March 28, 1944 — March 31, 2026

Pecos, Texas

William (Bill) Joseph Marshall, age 82, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at Reeves Regional Health in Pecos on March 31, 2026.

Bill was born on March 28, 1944, in Watonga, Oklahoma, to the late Robert and Anna Kathryn Marshall. He married his best friend and life partner, Sherry Ashton, on December 23, 1965, and they were married for 57 years. They were inseparable and built a beautiful life together.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Kathryn Hood, Bobbie Marshall, Dorothy Brown, and a brother, Kenneth Marshall. Bill is survived by his daughter Tracy Shaw (Brent) of Pecos, and son JoBob Marshall, along with a granddaughter Lindsey Birch (Joel), and 6 grandsons, Bradley Shaw (Jayde), Tyler Marshall, Andrew Marshall (Nichelle), Conner Marshall, Jacob Marshall, and Logan Marshall. Other survivors include his sisters, Carolyn Lewis, and Barbara Marshall, and many nieces and nephews.

Bill gave 31 years of loyal and dedicated service to Duval-Pennzoil-Freeport-McMoRan as the maintenance superintendent in Culberson County until the mine closed in 2000. He later worked for Capitol Aggregates until his retirement in 2003, when he moved to Midland. While in Pecos, he and Sherry owned The Ceramic Shop, where he poured and fired many ceramics throughout the years. He volunteered many hours at the Midland Senior Center, assisting his wife, who taught ceramics there. He also assisted Sherry at many craft shows.

He was better known to many as “Pas,” a name earned through nearly 32 years of faithfully supporting his grandchildren at swim meets, where he served as an official and meet referee. Pas loved supporting his grandkids and attended not only swim meets but also football, track, and softball games, always their biggest supporter.

He was truly one of a kind, with an unmatched work ethic, a tough, no-nonsense demeanor, and a quiet strength that spoke volumes. A man of few words, but when he did speak, people listened—because he told it like it was, or how it ought to be. His smile was rare, but when it came, it meant everything.

He could build or fix just about anything, a true craftsman and jack of all trades, especially when it came to waffle making! And somewhere along the way, he became quite the Candy Crush pro… level 9,502 and counting. Give him a Texas Burger, some ice cream, and a John Wayne movie or an episode of Survivor, and he was a happy man!

At this time, there will be no funeral or memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Midland Senior Center, 3303 W. Illinois, Suite 18, Midland, Texas 79703, or to the West of the Pecos Museum. Arrangements are under the direction of Pecos Funeral Home
