Socorro, lovingly called "Wela" by her grandkids, will be deeply missed and remembered with great love by her family.

Socorro Vasquez peacefully entered into rest on Monday, June 29, 2026, at the age of 99. She was born in Rhineland, Texas, on January 10, 1927, to Herculano and Jesusita Carrasco.

After marrying Pedro Vasquez in November 1961, she settled in Balmorhea, Texas, where she lived ever since. Socorro brought comfort, strength, and joy to those around her. She is preceded in death by her parents and her four sisters, Guadalupe Ramirez, Elfidia Carrasco, Elida Valdez, and Carmen Tenorio. Socorro was the firstborn.

She is survived by her husband, Pedro Vasquez; her daughter Florinda Madrid and son-in-law Joel Madrid; two grandsons, Liberty Ray Wofford (spouse Valerie) and Joel Bubba Madrid II (spouse Giselle); and great-grandchildren, Justice, Lynnley, Laylyn Wofford, Zanayah, and Mikhail Madrid, all of Balmorhea, Texas. She is also survived by various nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be; Liberty Ray Wofford, Joel (Bubba) Madrid, Bill Hoffman, Arnulfo (Jeff) Vasquez, Hector Ramirez, Richard Tenorio and Jose Ornelas Jr. Honorary pallbearer Mikhail Madrid. 

Visitation will start at 6:00 pm at Christ the King Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 in Balmorhea, Texas

A Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Christ the King Church in Balmorhea, Texas. 

The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Christ the King Church with Father Gabriel officiating. 

Socorro will be laid to rest at the Balmorhea Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Pecos Funeral Home.
