Mary Elizabeth Akins

Mary Elizabeth Akins of Pecos TX passed on February 16, 2026 at home.
She was born in Dublin Tx to Ulmer Jordan Rackley & Ellen Elizabeth Harris Rackley. She attended school in Dublin Texas. 

She married Billie Joe Akins on February 7, 1950. They lived in various places including Hearn Tx & Roswell, NM before landing in Pecos Tx where they raised their family. Mary worked hard throughout her life to include ironing for the general public, the West Side Laundry Mat & , Dairy Mart before beginning her career at PBT ISD. She retired from the ISD after 20 years with multiple Achievement Awards. When she was not working she enjoyed spending time with family and her church groups. She was an active member in Calvary Baptist Church where she played the piano for 50 years. She then was a member of the West Park Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, find a word puzzles, gardening, quilting, sewing. She spent a lot of her retirement years enjoying the company of her friends at the Senior Center, playing cards. 

She was proceeded in death by her parents and siblings; Alamarine Cotten, Norine Clary, Donald Dalmon Rackley; Ulmer Keith Rackley & Kenneth Laverne Rackley. Mary is survived by her daughters Laverne Hegwood of Quanah, TX; Betty (Roland) Teague of Alpine, Tx; Sons James (Ann) Akins of Pecos, Tx; Billy (Tina) Akins of Farmmerville, LA and Alfredo (Diami) of Modesta, CA. Grandchild: Tina, Charles Jr, Dean, Eric, Timothy, Kevin; Thomas James Jr, Christina, Tabitha, Kimberly, Jeffery, Misty, Phillip, Matthew, Nicholas, Johnathan, Ricardo & Jessica ; 50 Great Grand kids & 17 Great Great Grand kids 

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at West Park Baptist Church. Graveside services will be in Proctor Cemetery, Proctor TX on March 21, 2026 at 2:00pm.
