Karen Hornberger

Karen Hornberger, 73, of Toyah, Texas, was called home on Friday, June 2, 2017 at Reeves County Hospital in Pecos, Texas
Karen's wishes were to donate her body to Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
There will be a "Celebration of Karen's Life" on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at the Toyah Methodist Church in Toyah, Texas.
Karen was born in Pecos, Texas to Louis Gustad Jr. and Kathryn Bruce Gibson on August 21, 1943. She graduated from Pecos High School in 1961. She married Raymond Hornberger on December 27, 1960 in Pecos. Karen later went back to school and graduated from College of the Mainland with an associate degree in accounting. She worked in accounting and book keeping most of her working career. Karen enjoyed helping in her community of Toyah in any way she could. She was the lay leader for Toyah Methodist Church. Karen loved her Lord was honored to service Him and His word with everybody. She was evolved in the local Relay for Life for many years. Helping to find a cure was very dear to Karen's heart. Most of all Karen loved her family and enjoyed being with them all any chance she could get.
Karen is preceded in death by her husband Raymond Hornberger of 54 years when he passed, her son Ray Hornberger, mother Kathryn Paterson, father Louis Gustad Jr., step-father, Eugene Paterson, and brothers Robert and Dale Sutton.
She is survived by her daughter Terri Kaye Spence and husband Jay of Pecos, grandson Adrian Spence of Pecos. One brother Melvin D. Sutton of Toyah, Niece Jennifer Bakley of Odessa, and Nephew Greggory S. Sutton of Katy, Texas. She is also survived by 5 great-nieces and 3 great-nephews, as well as many cousins, aunts, and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association. And West of the Pecos Museum. The families of Karen Hornberger wish to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Cerna and to Reeves County Hospital for all their care and devotion during this difficult time.
Services are entrusted to Pecos Funeral Home.
