Danny was born on February 28, 1960, in Pecos, Texas, to Magdalena S. Reyes and Luis H. Reyes. He was raised in Pecos and attended Pecos High School. He married Gloria V. Reyes in Pecos on September 3, 1983 where they built a life centered around family, faith, friendship, and community.
Danny worked for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for 27 years. He took great pride in his work, especially in the operation of heavy equipment and was proud of the knowledge and experience he gained throughout his career.
A proud member of Santa Rosa Catholic Church, Danny’s faith and his community were important parts of his life. One of his greatest legacies can be found on the baseball fields of Pecos and in the lives of the countless young people he encouraged along the way.
For more than 40 years, Danny devoted his time to coaching Little League and travel baseball. He was much more than a coach; he was a mentor who encouraged young athletes not only to become better players, but also to become better people. For approximately 30 years, he also served as a baseball umpire at the high school and NJCAA collegiate levels. His love of the game, knowledge of baseball and dedication to young athletes touched generations of players and families throughout the community.
Away from the baseball field, Danny enjoyed spending time fishing at the lake, bringing his family together and making memories with the people he loved. Family meant everything to him and he treasured every opportunity to have those closest to him gathered together. He was also a proud and devoted Dallas Cowboys fan.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Magdalena Reyes and Luis Reyes; his brothers, Luis Jr Reyes and Enrique Reyes; his sisters, Irma Reyes - Contreras and Dr. Jannette Reyes.
Danny is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Reyes; his sons Gabriel Reyes, Daniel Reyes and daughter-in-law Cassandra Garcia; his siblings, Gloria R. Lara, Frank Reyes and Ismael Reyes; his granddaughters, Jada Reyes, Emma Reyes, and Anna Reyes; his grandsons, Landen Lucero and Liam Lucero; his nieces, Lisa Perea, Monica Ramos, Amy Coronado, Michelle Coronado and Priscilla Reyes; nephews Jimmy Contreras and Jaime Contreras; and numerous extended family members, friends, former players, fellow coaches, umpires, and members of the community whose lives he touched throughout the years.
Pallbearers will be CJ Zuniga, Louis Valencia, Ruben Ramos, Harvey Gil, Jimmy Contreras, Jaime Contreras, Pablo Jimenez, and Rene Gomez. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Rodriguez, Frankie Ramos, and Tony Muniz.
The Reyes family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff who cared for Danny, including those at Covenant Medical Center, Garrison Care Center and Hope Lodge. The family would also like to express their sincere gratitude to the Pecos Eagles community, the entire Pecos community, Z-TEK Construction, Santa Rosa Catholic Church and Pecos Little League for the tremendous love, prayers, kindness, and support shown to Danny and his family.
Danny’s legacy will live on through his family, the generations of young athletes he coached and mentored, and the community he proudly called home. He will be remembered for his love of family, his passion for baseball, his willingness to encourage others, and the many lives he touched both on and off the field. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
