Cruz "CJ" Gomez

Cruz Rene Gomez Jr. (CJ), 31, of Pecos, Texas passed away on June 3rd, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas.

Visitation will be Monday June 9th, 2025, from 12pm to 9pm at Peaceful Garden funeral home at 116 W. 4th St, Pecos, Texas. On Tuesday June 10th, 2025, from 10:30 am to 9:00 pm at Pecos funeral home at 607 W. 3rd St, Pecos, Texas with rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 10am June 11th, 2025, at Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church at 620 E. 4th St, Pecos, Texas. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery Pecos, Tx.

Cruz “CJ” was born in Pecos, Texas to Rene and Susie Gomez on March 28th, 1994. He went to Pecos High School and graduated in 2012. During his time in high school, he played on baseball and basketball teams where he met numerous lifetime friends. After high school he attended Texas State University to study accounting. After college he moved back to Pecos to be closer to his family. CJ worked with his father at Z-TEK construction. CJ enjoyed spending time in the community. Whether it was playing recreational sports with his friends, coaching the youth or visiting Pecos residents about their home projects. Cruz “CJ” had an infectious smile and personality that never wavered even with the life challenges that followed. CJ battled cancer the way he played his sports, with all his heart. CJ fought to the end with his family by his side every step of the way.

Cruz is preceded in death by his grandparents Robert Barreno Sr. and Fred and Elosia

Gomez. He is survived by his parents Rene and Susie Gomez. His Brothers Zach (Bree), Tyler and sister Kayla. His three nieces that he thought the world of Amaya, Alisia, and Aizlynn.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Gomez, Zach Gomez, JR Lujan, PJ Castillo, Brandon Garnto, Mark Quintana, Geronimo Ornelas, and Mundo Dominguez.
