Psalm 116:15. Precious in the sight of the Lord Is the death of His saints.
Hortencia Salcido Garcia (Armendariz)
On Tuesday, March 26, 2019, Hortencia Salcido Garcia (Armendariz) was called to return to our creator in heaven. A dedicated and loving mother to Herbey, Alvaro, Barbara, Picella, and Ismael Jr., Hortencia is the epitome of compassion and unconditional love for all.
Hortencia was born in July of 1931 to Julia Salcido Garcia (Marquez) and Jose Fransisco De Leon Garcia in Pecos, Tx and has two siblings, Alvaro Garcia and Virginia Garcia Flores. Hortencia graduated from Pecos high school with honors in 1949, and persued a career in Cosmotology in 1964. Hortencia was a pioneer hispanic female business owner and operator who opened her beauty salon called the Beauty Center, in 1966, and quickly expanded her business to include Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio and a wig shop, and was successful for over 37 years.
Hortencia is well known by all for having a kind heart and very sweet and caring spirit, always helped those in need with love and compassion. Even in hard times, Hortencia never turned anyone in need away. There were many LDS missionaries over the years, young teenagers, new brides, customers going through hard times, many family members, and countless deceased men and women at the Pecos funeral home that Hortencia lovingly gave her time and professional services to, never expecting nor wanting anything in return. Hortencia was always happy helping family members, friends, and acquaintances because her empathy and compassion was infinite and she strongly believed that giving was the Christian thing to do. Hortencia's acts of kindness have always been selfless.
Hortencia also raised four grandchildren in her golden years, Xochitl, Monica, Matthew, and Daniella, for 16 years. Hortencia suffered a stroke in 2000 and a second one 11 months later which incapacitated her physically. Hortencia lived in the Houston area near her daughter Pricella and had developed Alzheimer's several years ago. Hortencia was 87 years old when our Heavenly Father called her home.
Hortencia is preceded in death by her mother Julia, her father Jose, her brother Alvaro, and two sons, Herbey and Ismael Jr. Surviving children are Alvaro Armendariz, Barbara A. Villaloboz and husband Anthony M. Villaloboz, Sr., and Pricella A. Ferri and husband Joseph Ferri. Surviving sister is Virginia G. Flores.
Grandchildren are Christine V. Sanchez, Olivia M. Carlisle, Xochitl Armendariz, Monica Armendariz, Anthony Villaloboz II, Matthew Armendariz, Nathan Villaloboz, Alexandro Tarin, Isaiah Armendariz, Daniella Armendariz, Bruce Martin Valencia, Adriana Armendariz, and Julia Dawn Armendariz. Hortencia has 17 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Meagan Roebuck, RN, and Chaplain Ken Ellzey from Kindred Hospice in Beaumont, Tx, as well as the staff at Heritage Villa Nursing and Rehabilitation for all their loving and caring compassion.
Funeral services for Hortencia will be under the direction of Pecos Funeral Home as follows:
